Reviews

"...Mauricio Canete, for instance (who plays the wimpy Ptolemy in Cleopatra), turned out to have a fast and fizzy technique, with brisk feet and a surprising scale for such a small dancer..." Houston Ballet / The Guardian, London

"...The Houston dancers had a valid aerial spring in “Company B” Mauricio Canete was outstanding in the Bugle Boy solo..." The New York Times.

"...Most remarkable was the solo dance of the Russian, flawlessly danced by Mauricio Canete. Canete thrilled the audience with a series of gravity-defying toe touches and breathtaking pirouettes..." Dance Theatre of Bradenton, Florida

"...Mauricio Canete was the exception. His clean technique, combined with his take-no-prisoners, risky performance, was a bright spot in all three of the evening's ballets..." Ballet Florida / Palm Beach Post

"...The one intensely emotional duet of the show is delivered by two guest artists, most recently from Ballet Florida, in the long pas de deux of the final Waltz of the Flowers scenes: Christina Hampton and Mauricio Cañete..." Ballet Etudes / Mesa, Arizona

"...The work ends in a dazzling final movement featuring all 17 dancers... Including a fiery solo by Mauricio Canete..." Houston Ballet.

"...But most important, there's dance of the sort only Mauricio Canete can provide. He's Ballet Florida's diminutive star, a puckish personality with athleticism and energy to spare. So, who else better to play Puck? He doesn't steal scenes so much as he makes the entire ballet a more delightful experience, right down to his final gesture of spreading pixie dust on the stage..." Ballet Florida / Palm Beach Post.

"...Dracula's henchman Renfield, danced by Mauricio Canete with robust dramatic flair and feats of kinesthetic wizardry, was a wild, eccentric, frenzied, almost lovable characte..." Houston Ballet / Austin Chronicle.

"...The gifted young Mauricio Canete was a magnetic Nutcracker Prince, dancing with soaring line..." Ballet Florida.

"...The highlight was a snappy pas de deux for Britain Werkheiser and Mauricio Canete, who were brilliant... a pair of petite spitfires..." Houston Ballet / Houston Chronicle.

"...Dancers Christina Hampton and Mauricio Canete carry out the mood established by the lighting, and expose their passions and feelings via the primary-colored scenes..." Ballet Florida.

"...I was impressed by young Mauricio Canete as Ptolemy, Cleopatra's younger brother, who is given a fascinating duet with Pothinus, Nicholas Leschke..." Houston Ballet.

"...Mauricio Canete was a perfect Jester, impish and acrobatic..." Houston Ballet.

"...In Madame Butterfly Mr. Canete as a manic Goro, Stole The show with his agility and speed..." Houston Ballet / Houston Press.

"...Canete also danced a very brief solo by Ma Cong, originally choreographed for the NY International Ballet Competition. It's a show-off piece which couldn't have been more than 120 seconds long. Those 2 minutes are packed with super-swift movement, quick jumps, tours en l'air, inventive gestures for arms and hands, and tragic-comic desperation. You need a lot of control to pull this off. Canete was wonderful..." Ballet Florida.
